Heavenly Oceanly is exemplary of Ding Yi’s exploration in digital art, branching out from his foundation in painting. Created in 2022, the present work was developed during the same period as a series of works on wood panels inspired by the imagery of the cosmos and the sea—expressing a broad cosmological perspective and a sense of spirituality. While grounded in painting, Heavenly Oceanly expands Ding’s artistic expression into a new dimension, achieving a fluidity that traditional painting cannot convey. The visual elements are in constant motion—shifting in color and form—and converge at the center of the composition, where the sea meets the sky, unleashing a burst of energy. A series of five similar compositions creates a sense of internal order, yet each possesses distinct characteristics that convey a unique emotional resonance.
