Art is a fundamental need of human being. The contemporary time is an era that classic arts, modern arts and contemporary arts co-exist. However, among all of them contemporary art finds its way to best reflect zeitgeist. Since 2007, Hunan Provincial Museum and Tan Guobin Contemporary Art Museum co-produced three editions of “Art Changsha”, and this year the forth. The city Changsha has built its unbreakable bond with contemporary art. In the past seven years, “Art Changsha” achieved supports from almost all influential contemporary artists, man critics, collectors, art institutions and mass media as long as art lovers and citizens joined this grand event passionately. Together they wrote an important chapter of the development of Chinese contemporary art. At present, when Hunan Provincial Museum is under re-construction and expansion, Hunan Fine Art Museum and Changsha Meixi Lake Art Museum is being built, a broader stage and influence of art and culture in Changsha or even the mid-southern area of China is indicated. Looking into the future, if history is humaneness, it should remember the arduous contribution “Art Changsha” has made for broadening the territory of contemporary art in China.

For contemporary art is a highly individual expression, more contemporary artists conduct independently and are lonely thinkers, they instinctually don’t like to explain too much and be classified. Four participating artists of The Forth Art Changsha: Zhou Chunya, Guo Wei, Ding Yi and Xiang Jing are contemporary artists well known in China and even the whole world Their character and their arts are so unique and lively. They come from Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu etc. They formed a multi-regional group overall. Observing the arts and art practice of those four artists, although the form and style of their works are different, as long as their artistic background and experience, they have deep uniqueness and highly different. However, grouped together, they show a mutual temperament and artistic ambition. To conclude it, I would like to use six words: transcend deconstruction, pursue the great way.
